Polymer ligating clips are surgical
instruments used to seal off the body's blood veins, ducts, and other tubular
organs. They come in a variety of sizes and forms to accommodate various
anatomical components and are constructed from a biocompatible polymer, such as
polycarbonate. These are positioned all around the structure that needs to be
blocked off before being compressed shut with a specialised tool. Polymer
ligating clips stay in place, and eventually the blocked structure will close
up due to normal healing processes in the body. They provide some advantages
over more conventional ligation techniques like sutures or metal clips.
